StephanieRiann（AKA Coldwell-Anderson), Lyric Soprano is a native of the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada. She specialized as a classical vocal performance soloist, but enjoys singing folk, sacred, musical theatre, pop, and jazz music. Stephanie has been singing as a soloist since childhood as part of school, church, community choirs and opera company. The effect of being involved in these events and being exposed to music at a young age left a lasting impression and a love for music. Stephanie went on to study music at Acadia University ( BAM 2004 and BM 2006 ) and later went on to study at the University of Ottawa (MMus 2008). As a soloist and choral singer Stephanie has performed in solo recitals, musical theatre, opera, oratorio, church services, community fairs, music festivals, funerals, weddings, and pubs throughout Eastern Canada and England.

 

She studied voice under Ingemar Korjus, Marie (Anderson) McCarthy and Susan Dworkin-Hachey. She studied piano under Jessica Hanson , Ron Tomarelli and Sara Brooks. In her early piano years she was a student of Canadian composer Anne Crosby.  Stephanie also plays the fife, Irish whistle and the flute which she began playing in her youth. She was a flutist in the Nova Scotia Youth Concert Band ( positions of which were  gained through  yearly auditions to youth throughout the province.) She later was a flutist in the Acadia University concert band. 

 

Stephanie when she was living in Canada she was a member of ORMTA ( Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association). She has over 10 years of teaching experience in vocal, piano and rudiments classes and currently teaches community classes to learn English through singing. She has successfully prepared students for exams and auditions including auditions for school and community musicals, performing arts high schools and university entry auditions. Stephanie has had students accepted at the following universities and colleges to study voice or musical theatre: St. Lawrence College, Kingston ON- Music Theatre; Cambrian College Academy of Music, Sudbury ON; McMaster University, Hamilton, ON; York University, Toronto, ON; Queens University, Kingston, ON; University of Western Ontario, London, ON; University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, and Wilfrid Laurier University, ON.

 

In 2012/2013 Stephanie released 5 classical singles available through most digital platforms. She became a  member of SOCAN in 2014 when she began writing children’s songs and folk-world music. Stephanie’s debut children’s EP  Dreams was released in 2015, along with love song  singles Crossed the Divide and Devoted.  At the end of 2015 Stephanie received a demo grant from FACTOR (Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) to create her second children's EP entitled Adventurer which was release October 2016.  Stephanie was also the lead singer and occasional flute/fife/Irish whistle player of  the Canadian Folk-fusion band East N`West.  In 2017 Stephanie with East N`West released a debut EP through digital platforms.  In 2018 after moving to Japan, Stephanie released her first LP album entitled Beyond the Boundary  which contains new original and cover songs. Her current career goals in vocal performance, as well as in vocal and piano pedagogy combined with her new career as an English teacher in Japan will enabled her to bring music and joy into the lives of people of all ages.

 

Stephanie previously taught as  a My Smart Hands ( American Sign Language ) certified instructor in Milton, Ontario.  Stephanie is currently an English  Second Language teacher in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. As a freelance PT job she teaches and English Second Language class and Learn English through Singing class at her local community centre  in  Sagamihara, Japan.  She still continues to work on new material for songs, record covers and originals, and music publishing with Canadian collogues.  She is looking forward to future of discovering musical outlets  and traditional music in Japan. 

 

When Stephanie is not teaching English, writing music or singing, she enjoys spending her time with her husband and friends, cooking, traveling, camping/galmping , hiking, watching movies/TV,  and working to increase her Japanese skills .
